Sugar cravings
SymptomImportant Notes
- If you're eating really large amounts of sugar, even if you're not eating overt fat with the sugar, it is possible to get 'sweeted out.' If you're eating consecutive tablespoons of maple syrup and honey and drinking sugarcane juice and eating dates—if that's all you're doing and you're doing a lot of that—you're going to have more sugar than what your cells need in that moment in time
- Sugar with fat combinations: Eating sugar the 'wrong' way—for example, fruit and meat combined—will not be an antidote to sugar cravings. Our body's not receiving the maximum amount of sugar it needs for the cells and organs. Instead, our body is only receiving a partial amount of sugar to cells and organs while the majority of the sugar is being suspended in the bloodstream
- Brain cooling mechanism: Glucose cools the engine of the brain and prevents brain tissue from overheating and eventually scarring when you experience stress or trauma and electrical impulses are aggressively firing throughout neurons
- High fat diet interference: If you're eating a lot of overt fats, it can also mean that not enough glucose is getting to cells deep within your brain and body, in turn prompting you to crave unhealthy sweets and other unhealthy food combinations
- Glucose delivery system: Natural, unadulterated sugar from whole plant foods is key for brain function, because without glucose, our brain dies. Glucose is the delivery system to get all nutrients to every cell in the brain
- Brain needs fuel: Sugar cravings are communicating something specific biologically: Your brain wants sugar. Cell tissue in the brain needs fuel, whether because it's being taxed by any stress or because it's simply time for a feeding because the cells are hungry, to keep normal brain function occurring
- High fat foods: When eating high fatty foods, adrenaline is released to thin out the blood and fat. People think they're addicted to sugar but they're actually eating sugar and fat combinations (cookies, cakes, donuts) and are addicted to the fat-induced adrenaline surges
- Toxic liver connection: When your liver gets toxic and sluggish, and when you already have symptoms and conditions, all the toxins go into the brain and you can be triggered easier, leading to cravings
