Burning gums

Symptom
  • Viral infections: Burning gums are caused by viral infections including Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), shingles virus (over 30 varieties), herpes simplex 1 and 2, and other viruses in the herpes family
  • Trigeminal neuralgia: Burning gums can be a symptom of trigeminal neuralgia, which is caused by the shingles virus affecting facial nerves
  • Cranial nerve inflammation: Burning gums result from cranial nerves getting inflamed by viruses, particularly trigeminal nerve inflammation caused by shingles virus
  • Shingles virus: Shingles virus can affect facial nerves and cause burning gums
