Appendicitis

Condition
Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix caused by bacterial overgrowth — primarily streptococcus (strep) — that has colonized the appendix area. The appendix is not a vestigial organ; it deliberately acts as an immune lure, attracting pathogenic bacteria like strep so the immune system can detect and destroy them. When strep colonies become too large and have been present too long, this causes wear and tear and eventual acute inflammation or rupture. Almost all appendicitis cases trace back to food poisoning (foodborne pathogens) as the triggering event.
  • processed_foods_vulnerability: A diet heavy in processed foods and chips fails to deliver medicinal compounds to the appendix area, allowing strep and C. diff to accumulate unchallenged. Corn chips in particular feed viruses and bugs in the intestinal tract, increasing susceptibility to appendicitis.
  • Food poisoning: Almost all appendicitis cases are from food poisoning. Either the foodborne pathogen attacks the appendix directly, or food poisoning lowers immune system allowing E coli, strep, or C diff that's been waiting in the colon to grow and move into the appendix
  • food_poisoning_trigger: Almost all appendicitis cases stem from food poisoning (foodborne pathogens). The foodborne pathogen either attacks the appendix directly or lowers the immune system enough that dormant bacteria (E. coli, strep, C. diff) hiding in the colon seize the opportunity to invade and inflame the appendix. This can happen 2 days, 1 week, or even months after the original food poisoning episode.
  • Food poisoning: Almost all cases are from foodborne pathogens either directly attacking the appendix or lowering immune system allowing E coli, strep, or C diff to attack the appendix
  • Strep bacteria: Caused by streptococcus bacteria
  • ecoli_and_cdiff: E. coli pockets that have been building in the colon for years, along with C. difficile, can invade the appendix when the immune system is weakened by food poisoning. When the immune system is no longer monitoring these bacteria, they migrate to the appendix and cause rapid inflammation.
  • Food poisoning triggering already weakened appendix
  • Strep bacteria colonies harboring in appendix area
  • strep_bacterial_colonies: Streptococcus bacteria colonize the appendix area over time. The immune system uses the appendix as a lure to concentrate and fight strep. When too much strep accumulates for too many years, the bacteria cause wear and tear and eventually acute inflammation or rupture of the appendix.
  • Wear and tear on appendix from too much strep for too many years
